First Aid at Work courses - they're not all made equal

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require that all employers provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. 

What is “adequate and appropriate” will, of course, vary according to the workplace environment and number of employees however, the HSE state the minimum provisions for any workplace should be:

  • a suitably stocked first aid kit
  • an appointed person to take charge of first aid 
  • information for employees about first aid arrangements

 

How many trained first aiders do I need?

Before you start booking your first aid training you need to identify how many first aiders your workplace requires.  This will depend on a variety of factors such as:

  • workplace location
  • number of employees
  • level of risks and hazards present
  • working patterns such as shift work and lone working

 

Choosing your First Aid at Work courses

Not only are there lots of companies offering first aid at work training, the content and qualification level of the first aid at work courses can vary enormously.   We would always suggest you check:

Accredited courses

All training providers should be able to provide details of their own accreditation and also their first aid at work courses accreditation or regulation.  All of our first aid training courses are Ofqual regulated by Qualsafe Awards.  

Trainer experience 

Your first aid trainer should be highly qualified with a broad range of experience across a variety of sectors.  Broad sector experience will deliver a more informed, detailed and practical training course.

Which course?
